I am a true lover of food and love to explore top foodie destinations across the world. I don’t mind visiting different countries to satisfy my taste buds with delicious foods. As you know travelling is my other favourite hobby, a year before I travelled to New Zealand. There I got a chance to attend ‘Kawhia Kai Festival’. It is a kind of food festival, which is celebrated every year in Kawhia, outside of Hamilton.
This food festival basically belongs to the Maori community of New Zealand. The Maori are the indigenous Polynesian people of New Zealand who respect the land from the core of their heart as they believe that the earth is the giver of all life as from the soil comes food and thus they cook the same food beneath the ground in hangi style using heated rocks and flax baskets. I really can’t explain the mouth watering taste of the traditional and modern Maori food in words.
This amazing festival attracts thousands of visitors every year on Waitangi weekend in early February. Apart from the stall holders offering a huge array of delicious and mouth-watering Maori food, I also got a chance to enjoy the cultural activities and music performances by local musicians. Maori jewelry, wood sculptures and garden arts fascinated me a lot during the Kawhia Kai Festival. If you are also fond of food and travelling, don’t miss the Kawhia Kai Festival 2017.
